God Bless the USO

Whenever Pepper is having a bad hair day, she always goes to Steve. During his time with the USO, he would often help the chorus girls get ready, which means he’s nearly a pro at doing hair. Pepper has sworn on her life to never tell Tony any of this.

#subtlety did not exist in the 1940’s

I like the nurse in the background of the last panel.  The one who’s like, “Do it. DO IT FOR ALL OF US.  GROPE HIM.”

Those middle gifs. Dr. Erskine is like “Howard, I did it. He’s hot.” But Howard is mortified. “What have you done, Abraham?!? You made him too hot.”

Music

(I think I’m straddling the line between submission & fic)

The list of things that the entire Avengers team can agree on/have in common is quite short.

  • They have all had dark moments in their lives, when they’ve had to retreat into themselves
  • Music really helps
  • Oh, and Loki is an Ass (even Thor knows it… but he still loves his Brother)

Now… this does not mean that the type of music they listen to is the same. Jarvis had to dedicate some of his RAM to the sole purpose of maintaining the correct music around each Avenger.

Tony is big on classic rock… which, to him, is just rock… because, really, there is no other. (He also refuses to accept the notion that classic is a polite way of saying old. Polite.his.ass.) He did not just spend an entire 2.5 fight sequences wearing a Black Sabbath t-shirt for fashion’s sake-thank you very much. (Pepper has been slowly interweaving contemporary rock; Foo Fighters, Red Hot Chili Peppers, 30 Seconds to Mars-into his playlists, and while Tony likes them, they’ll never be as great as the music of his own teenaged-angst.)

Natasha could probably make any music sound badass and sexy, but she never lets anyone touch her ipod. Sure, if they looked at the titles, it would all be in Russian, but they’re all just bubblegum-dance songs. Her life is lived on a strict rhythm. She quite enjoys backwards-probably-not-helping-women’s-rights-girl-power songs like “Fuck You Betta”… sure, she sometimes takes the lyrics in a different direction than intended… but that’s her Prerogative

Bruce once tried a year without music. (What? It was during his Zen phase) He’s almost proud of that fact. Except it sucked, and didn’t help the other guy. At all. Bohemian Rhapsody is one of his favorites. He’s a big fan of being surprised in the middle of a song; Key changes, a chorus, jarring chords, random rap verses, unusual instruments, you name it. In fact, it’s the only kind of surprise he likes. (Take the hint Tony.)

Clint never takes the time to learn the name of a song. He gets tired of them too quickly. He figured out it was better for him to stream his music, rather than buy it, as he kept deleting everything and starting again. There was a long hip-hop/rap period. At first everyone confused it as some sort of misplaced thuglife-worshiping, but he ignored everyone until they left him alone about it. He just had a lot of sympathy for the rappers who actually had something to say. But he’s been really into dubstep lately. The syncopation and sheer confusion is perfectly distracting when he needs to zone out.

Everyone expected Steve to stick to the music of his time. This is true, to a point. Tony gave him an iPod that was teaming with amazing singers like Nat King Cole, Frank Sinatra, and pretty much anyone else of that era, but that was only half of the iPod’s memory. The other half has been slowly filled with new contemporary artists like Coldplay, Empire of the Sun, Gotye, Florence + the Machine. It’s difficult for Steve to remember the strange names these new artists come up with, but he completely appreciates this new sound.

Thor was much more difficult to figure out, as everyone thought he didn’t like to listen to music. That is, until they came across a street performer, and Thor stopped to listen. He stayed, and listened to everything the singer had to give. He even joined in for a song or two. Thor just likes the experience of live music. He thinks it’s the greatest thing to come from Earth since Poptarts.

Coulson… No one fucking knows with him. Some days will be strictly classical, with the pull of strings or simple piano dancing its way across the Coms, and others will be heavy screaming metal. Sometimes the lyrics are beautiful and break your heart, and other days it’s vengeance against the Man. Coulson is an amalgam.

They each will sometimes have Jarvis send a song to a different member of the team. Some songs like “Breathe Me” by Sia, have struck a chord across the board (Jarvis has counted it as the most played song among the group). Others are not always so well received.

A new form of communication has been born in the Avengers. There aren’t random bursts of song (usually) and they don’t have duets in hallways (okay, it was one time). But they learn to share.
